As a parent, you know that it is important to help your child learn good dental habits, and many parents work hard to encourage their child to brush their teeth regularly. But, brushing isn’t enough, because you need to make sure that your child is also learning how to floss. Here at Children’s Dentistry of San Diego, we want to help your child have good dental health. Here are 3 tips from a San Diego kids dentist to help your child floss regularly:
- Brush and floss together. When a child sees their parent doing something every day, then they are more likely to participate in that activity as well. Plan a time to brush your teeth together, and make sure to schedule enough time for flossing as well.
- Make a flossing chart. Sometimes, kids are more motivated to create a habit when they can track the progress that they are making. A simply chart on the mirror in the bathroom is a great way for them to keep track of how many times they have flossed. Have fun stickers available, so that the child can put a sticker on their chart every time they floss.
- Use fun flossing tools. If your child is young, they might have a hard time holding onto the floss. You can buy flossing sticks that makes it easier, and more enjoyable, to floss.
